What Makes a Dad
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad

This poem describes the picture of everything that makes a loving father important to a family. For many people, they have fond memories of their fathers throughout their lives being there to teach them how to ride a bike, kisses and hugs when they get hurt, teaching them to drive a car, and many more opportunities to demonstrate their love and care for their children. There have been many songs written about the love of a father for his children that share examples of a way a father loves his children. Two come to mind while I was preparing to write this blog; one being Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle and the other Daddy's Hands by Holly Dunn. I heard these two songs growing up and they always reminded me of my father and our relationship. Now, I no longer have my father in my life since has passed, but I do have my heavenly father to turn to for guidance. I have the comfort in knowing that "In my Father's house there are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?" (John 14: 2). Even though my earthly father is not here I know he is there in spirit with my heavenly Father preparing a place more me and all those who fear the Lord. On this Father's Day not only do we honor all of the father figures in our lives but also feel blessed to have a heavenly Father who watches over us day and night.
